You’ve gotta love the story of Wilson Bentley’s
snowflake photographs. Wilson from an early age (born 1865) was fascinated by snowflakes. He yearned to capture their beauty by drawing what he saw through a microscope. Sadly he could never finish these drawings before his flakes melted or sublimed.
Eventually, he figured out through experimentation how to connect a camera to his microscope and capture the images above. Now 200 years later we can still enjoy the fractals and fragility of the flakes he preserved.
